The Andamans could well be R.L. Stevenson's Treasure Island with its indigenous tribes and the marine world. There are 572 Islands of which only a handful are inhabited. Ross & Smith Islands and Long Island are located in North & middle Andamans. Further South are Wandoor, Cinque Islands, and for seafarers, there is Little Andamans, a remote island with the best surf waves you can catch in India.

Get on a dungi
A dugout canoe carved out of a single tree trunk & planked on either side were first introduced to the islands by the Karens. You could paddle, punt or sail, until 1986 when it was motorised. Hop on a dungi and punt your way through this salt-resistant ecosystem. Yerrata and Austin creeks are the best places in the Andamans to glide past the mangroves.
